The 2018 Welcome to Yorkshire Show Garden is the public's favourite at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The gold medal-winning garden, which is designed by Mark Gregory from Surrey-based Landform Consultants, has been voted the BBC People's Choice Award 2018.
Inspired by his home county of Yorkshire, Mark has already been awared a coveted RHS gold medal and the Best in Construction Award for the garden and tonight he was presented with the BBC's People's Choice award to add to his 2018 haul.
Mark Gregory, Garden Designer from Landform Consultants, said:
"This is unbelievable! I'm absolutely over the moon! Creating this garden on behalf of my home county has been an absolute joy. To meet the Queen, to get the gold and now to get the People's Choice, just doesn't get any better than this! It's been the perfect week!"
This year is the 30th consecutive year at Chelsea for Mark and the Welcome to Yorkshire garden is his 97th Chelsea show garden. He has spent nearly 4 years of his life on the grounds of the Royal Hospital and is delighted to have returned as a designer after winning gold for his Children's Society garden in 2010.
The official opening of the garden saw much excitement when a real Wensleydale sheep paid a visit to the Main Avenue, accompanied by members of City of Bradford brass band playing On Ilkley Moor Baht 'at.
Sir Gary Verity DL, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
"To have won a Gold medal for the garden was incredible but to be voted the public's favourite is just the icing on the cake! I'm thrilled for Mark Gregory and his team who have done such an amazing job in expertly recreating this beautiful slice of Yorkshire in SW3. I can't thank everyone enough for all their hard work and dedication. The reaction to the garden this week from the public, celebrities and Her Majesty The Queen has been overwhelming and I couldn't be prouder to bring this award back for the people of Yorkshire."
It has been a fantastic week for Surrey based Landform Consultants. As well as the Welcome to Yorkshire garden awards, lead designer Catherine McDonald was awarded a gold medal for the Seedlip garden in the new Space to Grow category.
