The Cotswold-based Giffords Circus is preparing to spend a month in the bright lights of London. More used to touring village greens and parks in and around the south-west, the famous family-run vintage circus will be spending the month of December entertaining Christmas shoppers in Selfridges on Oxford Street.
The cast from The Giffords Circus have been invited to perform a Winter Circus in Selfridges for the duration of the festive period, starting on November 30. Christmas shoppers in The Capital will be able to take time out and enjoy bite-size performances served up by famous Giffords acts including the famous juggling duo Bibi and Bichu and performance artist Nancy.
Founder Nell Gifford, who started the circus with her husband Toti, said: “We are delighted to have been invited to perform in Selfridges for the duration of the festive period. Our cast are in the midst of an intensive rehearsal period at Folly Farm getting ready for the opening day of Giffords Winter Circus at Selfridges. It is very special to be able to take a bit of Gifford charm to London and we relish the opportunity to entertain weary shoppers. The atmosphere in Selfridges is electric in the run up to Christmas and we are delighted to be a part of this.”
The Giffords cast will be performing a 15-minute show twice every hour, 7 days a week, in Selfridges starting on November 30 up until Christmas Eve. Performances are free and will be staged on the 4th floor of Selfridges in a replica Big Top, created by the Giffords’ Art Team.
Last week, Bibi and Bichu from The Giffords Circus joined the likes of Jesse J and James Arthur to help switch on the Christmas lights in Oxford Street. The Giffords Circus is based at Folly Farm, near Bourton-on-the-Water.
