The UK’s only travelling restaurant will treat more visitors than ever before to a gastronomic experience like no other. Together with Circus Sauce, the Giffords Circus Moon Songs tour will decamp to Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and for the first time in over 10 years, into London.
Chef Ollie Halas heads up Circus Sauce. He said: “This is a really exciting step for Circus Sauce. Throughout the tour last year we were sold out almost every evening, which is a fantastic testament to the continued support of our diners. Bookings are already flooding in for this year’s tour and we are hoping that even more guests can come along and enjoy what we’ve rustled up. A visit to Circus Sauce is the perfect end to a magical evening.”
The Circus Sauce kitchen is housed in two magnificent showman’s wagons with an adjoining canvas awning restaurant. The tent is dressed with vintage Giffords tapestries, grand communal candle lit oak tables and a quirky eclectic mix of crockery and furniture.
Each evening, circus goers enjoy a three-course al-fresco feast of hearty, nostalgic classics in the post big top buzz, occasionally rubbing shoulders with stars of the show. All food is served on large sharing platters, for guests to enjoy together in an informal fashion.
Spontaneity runs deep to the core of Giffords Circus, and this is reflected in the food on offer and the type of entertainment diners may enjoy during their meal.
Menus vary depending on seasonal availability of produce, the location of the circus and the weather. Circus Sauce embraces using suppliers who reside in the towns and villages that the circus visits, supporting all local smallholdings, loyalty boxes, farms, fishmongers, butchers and greengrocers along the way. Ollie, assisted by Adam Waller, regularly forage for ingredients such as elderflowers, wild garlic and nettles in the fields and hedgerows of the surrounding areas to the current circus location.
A typical menu may include freshly baked bread and butter, lamb hotpots, crispy pork, hearty Stargazey fish pies, mounds of Eton mess, treacle puddings and much more, all served up on platters and dishes to stick your spoon into. 2015 will also see the return of perfect pizza from the Chadwick pizza ovens, which prove the ideal interval treat.
Started by Nell and Toti Gifford in 2003, Circus Sauce is the UK’s only travelling restaurant and has grown organically ever since. Catering from their own wagon for all the acts and visitors, it soon became apparent that there was a real hunger for a fabulous post-show food and dining experience.
The Giffords Circus 2015 summer tour Moon Songs opens at Giffords Circus’ new HQ at Fennells Farm, Stroud on 15 May. Along the tour, Giffords Circus will visit the following locations: Sudeley Castle, Stadhampton Village Green, Blenheim Palace, Oxford University Parks, Daylesford Organic Farm, The Fox Inn at Barrington, Frampton Village Green, Minchinhampton Common, Marlborough Common and Cirencester before returning to Fennells Farm until 20 September.
For 2015 Giffords Circus introduce a new location to the tour at Chiswick House & Gardens. Performances at Chiswick House & Gardens will run from Thursday 11 June until Wednesday 24 June inclusive.
Directed by Cal McCrystal, Moon Songs invites audiences to enter the world of the Victorian Luna Park, a fairground run by larger than life illusionist and man of magic and mystery, Odoroff, and his Little Man assistant, David.
This year Giffords Circus famous jugglers, Bibi and Bichu bring their cousins from Ethiopia, all 13 of them, and magician Odoroff tries and fails to command this giant troupe of dancing gymnasts. Clown Tweedy is shot from a cannon and then turns himself into the man in the moon, the bear gallops past on a pony, the carousel horses come to life, the weather in the tent turns wintry, the jugglers are suddenly upside down, the little man laughs and chaos reigns in this topsy turvy lunatic world.

Tickets are priced at £22 for adults and £14 for children with the exception of Chiswick House & Gardens. Tickets for these performances are priced at £25 per adult and £15 per child. Under 3s are free to all shows if they are sitting on a lap.
Circus Sauce can be booked after the last evening performance. Supper is priced at £25 per adult and £12.50 per child under 14 yrs. Please note, Circus Sauce is not a licensed restaurant and diners are invited to bring their own drinks including alcohol. The entire restaurant is also available for private hire.
