After much anticipation Sup & Chow, the former Brown Jug pub, opens on Cheltenham’s Bath Road this August. Following a grand overhaul, the all day pub and eaterie will offer this vibrant area of Cheltenham a contemporary community pub.
Sup & Chow will serve a menu of locally sourced food with a global feel alongside a fantastic selection of cask ales, craft beers and fine wine. The exciting new pub will be open from 8am each morning until past 11pm in the evening.
Vicky Martin, owner and landlady of Sup & Chow, said: “Sup & Chow is the fulfilment of a life long dream. I have always thought that a pub should be at the heart of the community and I think that sometimes this has been lost. I want to create a place for people to gather, unwind, celebrate and enjoy the everyday and special occasions of life. We hope to welcome familiar faces and newcomers alike as we establish ourselves as a go to place for faultless food, great drinks and of course a wonderful atmosphere.”
We decided on the name Sup & Chow because it was a playful way of describing what we do here, it’ll be an adaptable space throughout the day offering something for everyone. I’m so looking forward to opening the doors and getting started.”
Welcoming yummy mummies and dishy daddies for morning coffee and brunch, independent professionals looking for a great spot with WiFi to work remotely, ladies that lunch, corporate catch-ups, first dates, family meals, girlie get togethers, lads meet ups, live music nights and BT sport into the evening. Sup and Chow aims to be everyone’s local reinvented.
Up and coming Cotswold chef Dale Young will lead the kitchen in his first position as Head Chef. Dale joins Sup & Chow from time spent working in some of Cheltenham’s best-loved restaurants including The Storyteller, The Daffodil and Coco Bistro. Dale’s menu embraces Vicky’s passion for global flavours and healthy food.
Open for all day dining, Sup & Chow’s breakfast menu features dishes including a Pancake Stack with mountains of berries, Sweet Potato Hash with poached eggs and of course a Sup & Chow Full English breakfast, all served with freshly brewed Lavazza coffee.
Along with a great selection of burgers and the pub staple of steak and chips, main meals include a Superpower Salad, Moroccan Spiced Lamb Rump, Indian Style Chicken Breast served with aromatic coconut rice, masala sauce and mango relish and Vegetable ‘Paella’ to name but a few.
For lighter bites, a Tapas menu is available including Crispy Calamari, African ‘Bobotie’ Meatballs and Mozzarella Bocconcini, cherry tomato, basil and olive salad.
Social dining is encouraged with a menu of grazing and sharing platters. Baked Camembert with cumberland relish and Hobbs House sourdough bread, along with a Charcuterie board of cured meats, pickles and chutneys are on offer.
For those with room for something sweet, desserts include a Sweet Potato, Orange and Raw Chocolate Brownie with Salted Date Toffee Sauce, Raspberry & Coconut Cheesecake and a Raw Carrot and Peacan cake with Spiced Peanut Butter Icing.
Sup & Chow’s interiors have been designed by Vicky and Maple Construction with many feature pieces being salvaged from reclamation yards. These include a pair of rustic wooden, paint splattered ladders that hang over the main bar and a mounted station clock. Vintage inspired filament lighting hangs throughout and walls are adorned with stripped back wooden scaffold pannelling. In warmer weather, pub dwellers will be able to soak up the sunshine from the private courtyard garden at the rear of the property or enjoy watching the world go by on the bench seating in the enclosed areas that flank the entrance.
A seasoned hospitality professional with over 30 years experience, Vicky spent her childhood years in pubs across London and has since managed pubs, bars and high end hotels, including a guest house of her own, both in the South West and as far afield as South Africa.
Sup & Chow is Vicky’s first independent venture and she will be launching the pub in partnership with Wiltshire based Wadworth Brewery. The pub will be a family run business with Vicky’s two older children supporting her in their spare time.
