The final countdown has begun for the Beards Diamond Rush, which will take place this Saturday.
Hundreds of hunters are expected to flood Cheltenham in search of one of 10 diamonds. Beards Jewellers and Maggie’s Cancer Care will stage the event.
Diamonds with a total value of £14,000 will be hidden across Cheltenham. There will be one single diamond with a grand value of £5,000 hidden somewhere in the town. Nine diamonds, each with a value of £1,000, will also be hidden at top-secret locations. Each stone will be a Round Brilliant cut diamond, exclusively sourced for the Beards Diamond Rush.
Managing Director Alex Rose, from Beards, said: “We could not be more excited for the return of the Diamond Rush. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before. We have a fantastic line up of locations which are all top secret. We are really looking forward to experiencing the buzz and energy that this brings to Cheltenham. Maybe we will have more marriage proposals like last year! Most importantly, we are really hoping to smash 2014’s total and raise even more vital funds to support Maggie’s Cancer Care.”
The event will take place on Saturday 17 October to coincide with the 100th birthday of the late Peggy Waite, Grandmother to current business leading family members. The date also marks the 5th anniversary of the Cheltenham Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre.
Centre Fundraiser Anna Mason, from Maggie’s Cheltenham, said: “Here we are, just days away. Our Clue Maker volunteers are fully prepared and we’ve got our collection buckets ready to be filled. We are all extremely excited and are looking forward to a fun filled day for all the family. Good luck to everyone taking part and happy hunting!”
The 2014 Diamond Rush saw Cheltenham buzzing with people hunting for diamonds and the first diamond was found within 10 minutes. A proposal on the day and 2 following the event have since contributed to the Diamond Rush’s outstanding reputation as the most extravagant treasure hunt.
Tickets are now on sale at www.beards.co.uk/diamond-rush-tickets and hunters can exchange these for a treasure map from 8.30am on the morning of the event. Maps direct people to a general vicinity where they will be able to start searching.
Clue Makers branded in Diamond Rush clothing will be at strategic points across the town. They will be offering additional clues to hunters who make an extra £5 donation.
