A young Cheltenham hairdresser and beautician will be jetting off to London in the next seven days after being selected to go through to the next round of the BBC Three search to find the UK’s top Young Talent of the Year.

Autumn McGowan and Alexandra Wilson, both who work at the prestigious Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa in Imperial Square, will be going head to head with 50 other young hairstylists and beauticians in a bid to show they are at the top of their profession.

“I am absolutely over the moon to have made it through to the next round of auditions. To be selected by the BBC as one of the top 50 young hairstylists in the whole of the UK is a real honour,” said 23-year-old Autumn.

‘Young Talent of the Year’ is a BBC Three series celebrating young professionals across the country.   Producers say the aim of the series is to celebrate people in jobs that never see the limelight. There are talent shows for dancers, singers and entertainers, but people who are hairdressers, butchers, fishmongers, beauticians and plumbers rarely get their skills celebrated.

A total of 50 young people from each trade have been invited to progress to the next stage of the competition. The auditions for the hairdressers are taking place in central London on Thursday August 12 with the beauticians’ auditions taking place on Monday August 16.  Autumn and Alexandra will both be interviewed by a member of the production team before being quizzed by industry experts.

The 50 young trades people will then be whittled down to just 20. The successful group will then be invited through to the next stage of auditions that take place in Manchester later this month.

Stuart Holmes said he was absolutely delighted that two of his highly skilled team had earned this national recognition.   Autumn has worked at The Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa since 2005.  23-year-old Alexandra joined the team earlier this year.

He said: “Autumn and Alex are very talented young professionals and it is great that they have made it as far as they have.  We are right behind them and hope they make it through to the final round.  At the salon we pride ourselves on pioneering innovation and ensuring our team are leading the way in the industry.   Autumn and Alex’s success just shows that we are continuing to do the right thing.”

The Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa has been nominated as a Salon of the Year finalist in the prestigious British Hairdressing Business Awards. The salon will be up against the likes of Trevor Sorbie and Michael Van Clarke at the ceremony which is taking place in September.
