The Stuart Holmes Hair & Beauty Spa has been named as one of the top 100 employers in the whole of the UK for employing apprentices.

The Cheltenham based salon was awarded a place by City & Guilds on the 2011 Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers List that was unveiled at the National Apprenticeship Awards 2011 earlier this month.

This list highlights a diverse range of sectors and employers that are engaged with apprenticeships. The list honours each company’s commitment to apprenticeships and its apprentices.

Stuart, who was recently appointed Gloucestershire’s Apprentice Champion for the Service Industries, said: “We are so pleased to have been awarded this position within the Top 100. I am humbled and honoured by the quality of the other companies on the list which include large corporations like BT and  Rolls Royce plus the armed forces including the RAF and the Royal Navy.

“Apprenticeships are the foundation of so many industries, and this list reflects that.  I know that my business could not survive without them.  I believe passionately in encouraging young people to reach their potential and believe that apprentices bring a new perspective and passion to our industry that is fresh and exciting.”

The Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers List is an exciting new initiative to recognise excellence in business by celebrating the outstanding achievements of Apprenticeship schemes. It aims to promote the benefits of apprenticeships to learners and employers alike.

To gain a place on the list, employers had to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the training and support of their apprentices in their commercial field.

The naming of the salon in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list is a culmination of recognition for The Stuart Holmes Apprenticeship Scheme.

Only a few months ago one of Stuart’s apprentices, Gary Wiltshire, received a Highly Commended in the Advanced Apprentice category at the recent regional finals of the Apprenticeship Awards. This award experienced a record number of entries this year with over 1,600 applications for the eight different categories.

Last year Stuart’s commitment to cultivating new talent was also recognised by top business experts. The Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa was awarded the ‘Apprentice Development Award’ at the prestigious Gloucestershire Business Awards.  Stuart is extremely proud to be able to offer an award-winning scheme for young people which helps to start them on their career paths.

The Top 100 Employers List was unveiled earlier this month at the National Apprenticeship Awards. It was a glamorous ceremony attended by Skills Minister, John Hayes MP, at the Mermaid Theatre, Blackfriars.
